What Makes A Dad

I always adored my dad. I lost him way too young when I was 19 and I miss him every year. Some years are easier than others, but it is never easy. Since Livi was born, it has been more difficult. I wish he could see her grow up. I wish she would get to know him and not just hear stories.

Livi adores her dad. I could not ask for a better father for my little girl. Her excitement when he comes home in the evening and the pure joy on his face when they spend time together are beautiful to watch.

Happy Father’s Day to my dad and to my husband! And Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there!

Dad and Daughter

What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it … Dad

Hostility At The Airport: Traveling As A Family

Any kind of travel with Livi is a challenge. Aside from a few attempts to visit places other than our neighborhood park or the mall, almost all of which resulted in endless crying fits, we have not even considered traveling anywhere; much less thought about going on a plane with her.

It is hard enough to go anywhere with her in the car, a mode of transportation that provides the flexibility of stopping any time, changing plans, and even turning around altogether.

The thought of spending time at an airport and being stuck on a plane with no possibility of escape makes me nauseous and nervous.

Overnight Guests: What To Avoid And Expect

Part 1: Overnight Guests: How To Prepare

What To Avoid

1. Avoid major changes
Having guests in our house for several nights was at times overwhelming for Livi. As a result, she got overstimulated easily. Anticipating this, we wanted to make sure that everything else remained the same so that she could feel safe and knew what to expect. We left her play area untouched, even though it is in the middle of our living room; and we made sure we stuck to her usual routine.

Overnight Guests: How To Prepare

As a high need baby, Livi is very sensitive to stimulation and changes in her routine. While she does not really follow a predictable schedule, it seems to help her to know what will happen throughout the day.

She is also a light sleeper. We have to stop any (noisy) activities once she finally falls asleep.

Mainly for these reasons, we do not have many visitors at our house, especially overnight guests. We had both sets of grandparents stay for a few weeks after Livi was born as they all live pretty far away, but that was it.
